AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910)
Sunday, February 28th
This field trip will be lead by Arash Shahry and Ruzbeh Jamshidi, and students are encouraged to meet the group at the College Park metro at 6pm and travel to the theater together. You may also meet the group directly at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center if you prefer, but please let Hilary know if you plan to do this so the group does not wait for you in College Park.
“Atomic Heart” is being shown as part of the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art “Reseeing Iran: Twentieth Annual Iranian Film Festival”. In this 2015 surreal Tehran nocturne, two drunk party girls get into a car accident and receive help from a mysterious stranger (Mohammad Reza Golzar). He pays off the other driver and enlists the girls in an errand involving a supposedly dead dictator, whose weapons of mass destruction are hidden in another dimension. With its apocalyptic and supernatural overtones — and surprising pop culture references ranging from an obscure Pink Floyd album to Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky" — Ali Ahmadzadeh’s film paints a picture of contemporary Iran like no other. In Persian with English subtitles.
