Dr. Nahal Akbari is the director of the Persian language program, including its Flagship component. Since 1996, she has taught ESL, ESP, academic writing courses, and Persian as an additional language. Her research interests include intercultural rhetoric, academic literacy, second language writing, and teacher education.

Manizhe Galledari has master's degree in teaching Persian to non-native speakers. She taught Persian at Qazvin International University in Iran for 14 years, and also taught numerous short-term courses in other universities both inside and outside of Iran. She is the author of three books and co-writer of 2 others in the field of teaching Persian language. Her main interest is working on different language skills.

Kelly Flanagan is the Project Manager for Arabic and Persian. Kelly has a certification in Program Management and has applied this knowledge in the fields of international development and international educational exchange focusing on the Middle East and North Africa. She has an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) where she focused on Conflict Management. Kelly has studied in Jordan and Italy and loves exploring cultural intricacies, a passion that has found a happy home at UMD.
Ali R. Abasi

Dr. Ali R. Abasi is an assistant professor of Persian and his primary research interest is second language writing. Some of his most recent publications have appeared in the Journal of Second Language Writing, Journal of Language and Politics, English for Specific Purposes, and Journal of English for Academic Purposes.

Dr. Ari Stern-Gottschalk is Project Director for Arabic and Persian, and directs the Summer Language Institute and UMD Project GO. She received her PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to teaching language, linguistics, and literature courses in Slavic and Jewish Studies topics, she has directed language pedagogy programs and intensive summer language institutes at UCLA, Arizona State University, and Indiana University.

Jay is a program assistant for the Persian Flagship Program. He graduated from the program in 2016 and prior to that earned degrees in Germanic Studies and Linguistics from the University of Maryland. During his undergraduate studies, Jay served as the editor-in-chief of Roshangar: Roshan Undergraduate Persian Studies Journal and worked in computational linguistics research with the Center for Advanced Study of Language. He is proficient in German and Persian and has studied in both Tajikistan and Germany.
