Arabic Program

UMD's Project GO Arabic Program offers a domestic and overseas track. The domestic track, which is hosted at the UMD's Summer Language Institute, offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of Arabic domestically. The overseas track will take place at the Arab American Language Institute in Morocco (AALIM) in Meknes, Morocco for True Beginners of Arabic and administered by American Councils for International Education. Please contact us if you are interested in studying overseas at a higher level of Arabic.

Program Dates:
Arabic Domestic: June 1 - August 4, 2017
Arabic Overseas: June 1 - July 28, 2017

Overseas Program Highlights:

  • 20 hours of Arabic instruction, 50-60 total in-language contact hours/week
  • Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan Dialect instruction
  • Living with host families
  • Weekly Lectures and Independent Research on Area Studies
  • One-on-one time with Language Partners
  • Program Excursions (Day Trips & Weekend Trips)
  • Weekly Cultural Activities

Domestic Program Highlights:

  • Complete beginners welcome 
  • One full year of language in one intensive summer (12 credits)
  • Intermediate, Advanced & Content Level Arabic also available in the Summer Institute
  • Cultural events and one-on-one time with language partners
  • Living / learning environment in the Arabic House
  • Small class sizes, 22 contact hours / week, dedicated faculty & staff team
  • Building students’ cultural competence through a variety of language-focused cultural activities (In-language films and blog discussions, hands on workshops and field trips, and cultural portfolios and projects)
